See also: FTDNA Learning Center Genealogy page.
PLEASE - Use the fields in your surname list for the purpose that they were intended for - surnames and geographic origins. This is not the place to stuff in your haplogroup, your phone number, etc.
1. Access Account Settings | Genealogy | Surnames.
2. Maintenance of a surname list will make it easier for your matches to search for and find you.
3. As you add surname records, FTDNA will automatically alphabetize the list.
4. You can put multiple spellings of a surname on one line, separated by spaces. e.g. Sweeney Sweeny.
5. Enter location information. Names like Smith need precision!
Trick: Make your ancestral origins searchable!
FTDNA currently does not have the ability to search the content of the location fields of your surname records.
However, you can add a location in a surname field and that location can turn up if your matches search for it.
If FTDNA were to eventually introduce the ability to search the Location field of the Surname record, you can always remove these "trick" entries later.
